Reader Survey! Reader Survey!
Question: When you are really overwhelmed and angry about something, what works best for you?
Answer: Prayer. Okay. Right. That's the obvious answer. But have you ever been to a point where you find it difficult to pray? You begin a prayer, then your mind just begins to focus on the very thing or things that brought you to your knees in the first place - not on God. What then?
For me, it is time to hop in the car, pop in a CD and get my angry diva on. Usually, I'm all about lyrics when it comes to songs, but some of my favorite angry diva songs don't have much to do with what they're singing about. It has more to do with how loudly I can sing along. It is a cleansing experience. Plus, you get some interesting looks at the stop light. Do you have an angry diva song or songs? Here's one that I belted out in my car approximately 5 times in a row today:
I would love to know which songs work for you. If you know how, I would love it if you would put a link to a Youtube video of the song. And just to tell you, if anyone says "Walking on Sunshine" or "There is Peace in the Valley", I'm pretty sure we can't be friends anymore...
Heh, Heh, Heh!
BTW - This blog post is coming to you through the magic of scheduled posting. As many of you are reading this, I am in-route to a day of intense leadership training, apple computers and fauxhawked awesomeness, culminating in an extravaganza of worship, skittles, sarcasm and corn hole. That's right, peeps. I'm on my way to Hotlanta for the Catalyst One Day and then I'm off to meet up with Steph at the Red Clay Diaries for Off the Blogs. I will have Wednesday evening to prepare for the event. So please feel free to leave incredibly annoying and stupid questions and comments for the speakers of said event. I'm pretty sure that the ones who know me through their blogs love/hate me already, but this should really put me over the top! Woot! Woot!

I'll admit my envy for you and Steph. I'd love to be joining you. No wait, I'd like to be a fly on your walls. It would be like dodging a pinball, I'm sure.
My favorite song is "Viva la Vida" because is starts out like a slow simmery anger and as it cranks up I crank it up and it just blows my ear drums out. And I still haven't figured out what the words mean. I just pretend I know them. For all I know, they could be singing "Paul is dead" backwards or something.
You're too cute...I'm in the love ya group ;) My I-need-to-just-chill-out-now! music is always, always, always Jack Johnson. He calms me :) My favorite song by him is..
Banana Pancakes
Have a safe trip!
My favorite anger management song is My Sharona.
It is not about the lyrics. It is about the beat. I can pound on the dining room table or the steering wheel to the beat, and people think I am just really into the song. I recommend pulling over if you are going to pound the steering wheel.
Funny story....This song starting to play as I was pulling into the school parking lot. I love this song, so of course when I pull into my spot, I close my eyes and start banging on the steering wheel. When the song is over, I open my eyes, and find my car surrounded by students and teachers staring at me. Do you think they believed me when I told them I was trying to adjust the steering wheel?
When I really ticked off about something, I go for a run. Pounding the pavement totally eases the stress for me, plus it provides a legitimate reason for my heart to be racing and by BP to be up.
Singing at the top of my lungs comes in a close second. I can always count on Chumbawomba's "I get knocked down" chorus:

Now if I could combine the two--running AND singing at the top of my lungs--that would be priceless. But the neighbors might try to have me committed if I attempted a stunt like that....so I haven't attempted it just yet.
Have fun on the trip!
Hmmm...I think it's time we have MIDWEST Off the Blogs somewhere in the middle of Illinois for Candy, Helen, Sherri, and myself.
And you didn't just ask what I love to sing to angry....because although I'm very much into it, I'm sure it's HILARIOUS for anyone watching when I sing this:
The Way I Feel
or this:
Rawkfist
or this might be even funnier.
In my not-so-awesome moments of anger I have been known to abuse closet doors and throw things. Yeah....it's much better that I sing these songs or go for a run like Mylestones said.
And I would sing all of these songs for your enjoyment if I was at Off the Blogs. Have fun! Ask Jon Acuff if he wants me to send his birthday card I never sent...I found it when I was doing my taxes the other night...
I hope you have a great time! Can't wait to hear all about it.
P.S. My favorite angry rocker chick is Avril Lavigne, definitely!
Helen, you are so School of Rock.
I am not a very good angry person. And I don't really have any angry music - I'd rather 'get over it' with a nice glass of red and an episode of NCIS. I can live vicariously through Zeva (the Israeli kick *** chick) and pretend I'm taking down some loser terrorist with an awesome side-kick to the head and elsewhere. Yes, I feel much better after that.
How about "Friends are Friends Forever"? J/K! I guess when I get super angry, I get mostly quiet. I get loud when I'm perturbed...
With the things I've been angry about lately, it's been this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB9t2p6ii6k
You can work up a really good mad with it.
Pressure by Billy Joel....and Ignition by Toby Mac.
I love the looks I get driving through the hood with Tmac boomin' on my mini-van speakers. LOL
I do the drive fast, blare the CD. It works like a charm. I generally throw on some Kirk Franklin. When I really need to get my jam on (as much as a 37 year old white chick is capable of) I listen to TobyMac AND Kirk Franklin in their collaborative music. It's awesome.
But sometimes, I'm just in a downright, pissed, heathenistic mood, so I'll listen to Nelly or Kanye. Yup, that's how I roll...
